We want to make sure we give both titles the support they need and deserve to truly flourish. Many players in the community have been discussing splitting the game and we’ve heard you loud and clear. The more we developed this game with you, our community, the more we realized that in order to fully support both aspects of H1Z1, and their respective players, we needed to make them their own stand-alone games supported by their own dedicated development teams. Last year, we started to notice new player trends emerging – both the initial Survival game and Battle Royale game mode now have strong populations who almost exclusively play one or the other. Our community has been a huge part of the game’s roadmap and success. As a compromise, the game received a large update on September 20, including many of the features intended for the official release.H1Z1® has been on an incredible journey since its inception, and the time spent in Early Access has been invaluable to the development direction of the game. However, a week prior release, the game's executive producer stated that due to many features remaining unfinished by then, the game would remain in early access until further notice. Later that year, it was announced that development of the console versions were paused in order to focus on the Windows version of the game, which was given an official release date of September 20, 2016. In February 2016, it was announced by Daybreak that the game originally known simply as H1Z1 had been split into two separate projects with their own dedicated development teams, subtitled Just Survive and King of the Kill. Despite the unstable launch, John Smedley, CEO of Daybreak Game Company, announced that the game had sold over a million copies by March 2015. A new bug, which made all servers go offline, was also introduced to the game after the developer released a patch to fix other problems. Framerate issues, lack of voice chat and AI problems were also reported. Players reported that they could not login to their account or enter any active server. At release, the game suffered from severe technical issues. The game was originally released on Steam as an early access title on January 15, 2015.
